Week 14

Accomplishments
I finally have the code working for our first small data set. We have basic statistics on the data such as number of cells, average number of tags, and average number of title words. We also have plots about how they use of tags change over time, from day to day.
Weekly Goal
This week we are writing a paper hoping to submit to MSR. I plan to write an overview of all the literature we've reviewed. and information about the data.

Week 13

Accomplishments
We worked a bit on the midterm report and polishing up our versions of the paper. A little coding as well, but all of us are distracted by finals.
Weekly Goal
Finish the midterm report.

Week 12

Accomplishments
The paper has been submitted, and we planned out our next paper or two.  With finals approaching things have definitely slowed down.
Weekly Goal
Focus on organization of what we have and finals. We'll pick back up during finals!

Week 11

Accomplishments
The final version of the paper is ready and after Alina and Bonita revise and approve it, we'll submit it. We are also still looking at our code and trying to remove some bugs.
Weekly Goal
Submit perfected paper, and return to the code.

Week 10

Accomplishments
We have a draft good enough to submit. We submitted by the due date but then the due date was extended. Though we edited it thoroughly last week there's still more to be done with it.
Weekly Goal
Have an amazing Oakweek paper and start planning for future submissions.

Week 9

Accomplishments
This week we really concentrated on the submission for Oakweek. I wrote the methods, and helped with the abstract and the results. I revised everything and helped choose the sources we would use. We wanted to make sure it was the best it could be. I looked at the code a little but with no notable results.
Weekly Goal
This week we need to finish are submission. I would also like to make some more headway in my statistics program and start to understand all of what Hannah has been doing.

Week 8

Accomplishments
I did it! The we now have the most commonly used words in the titles and the tags. After managing to split the title and tags into words the rest was easy. The program now runs and I began looking at other aspects of the code to see if they can also be useful.
Weekly Goal
Finish going through the code and finish the application to present at Oakweek, the Ohio women in computing conference.

Week 7

Accomplishments
I continued to debug our statistics program and made a little headway. Unfortunately  my computer struggled to handle the massive amount of data need for these programs and also crashed. Since then I've looked for alternative ways to feed in the data and it seems to have really helped.
Weekly Goal
This week I hope to have the program gather statistics on words as well as characters. In addition I'd like to find an NLP library for R.

Week 6

Accomplishments
We now have a github repository and some working code. We found statistics for the data using R and have tentative models. Not all of the code is functional, but it's definitely a start! We've both separately encountered problems as we've coded. I've run into a memory shortage problem and Hannah's computer actually crashed, but we're pushing through the bugs and will hopefully have two function programs next week.
Weekly Goal
The goal this week is simply to complete the programs we started last week and start writing up results.

Week 5

Accomplishments
This week Hannah began to code and I read out last article for a while. We feel like we have a solid enough understanding of the material to really begin digging in and making our own versions of the models we've been reading about. We have all of the deep learning software we need and are excited to actually start innovating!
Weekly Goal
This week we have found several models we plan to adapt to run our data sets.

Week 4

Accomplishments
This week I was at the Grace Hopper Celebration in Houston, Texas. It was amazing! I met so many inspiring, fantastic women, and was truly able to imagine that I can actually be a woman in tech for the first time.  I also was able to meet Dr. Sharif for the first time in person and hear her present her research during the Creu poster session. It was an amazing experience I'll never forget. Also Happy Birthday Google!

I also read another article and began looking through code this week.

 Weekly Goal
Now that I'm back I'm ready to use the inspiration and motivation from Grace Hopper. I'll be reading another article and testing the models we've found through our research with real data.

Week 3

Accomplishments
This week was extremely busy with classes and family problems, so I did not get as much done as I would have liked. I did read an article on sequence to sequence learning and multi-task learning. I presented that article and earned about the GloVe algorithm from Hannah. Together we finished the website and started looking at code.
Weekly Goal
I will be in Grace Hopper next week so I plan to look for ideas and inspiration amongst the other projects. In addition I plan to start coding and read another article.

Week 2

Accomplishments
This week is still dedicated to reading articles and developing a deep understanding of the research material. To this end, I read an article about convolutional neural networks. I'll present that research this week at our meeting. I also looked for code we could start with and expand instead of starting form scratch. My article from last week linked to a website they used that included the code. Finally, Hannah and I are getting the CREU website updated and running this week.
Weekly Goal
This week I'd like to begin coding and applying the concepts I've learned through the articles I'm reading. I'll also continue reading articles to broaden my knowledge.

Week 1

Work Accomplished
This week we focused on finalizing paperwork. There were still a few i's to dot and t's to cross before we could truly begin researching. With all the forms filled out and the programs set up, I was able to begin reading an article describing recurrent neural networks with multi-task learning. I have made a summary presentation of that article and will present it at our next meeting. Hannah was also given an article to present, so I will be able to learn the content she read about through her presentation and she will learn the content of my presentation, doubling our knowledge.

Weekly Goal
My weekly goal is to finish all paperwork and begin learning what the project is actually about. There are a lot of terms I'm not familiar with yet, but each article I read clarifies the concepts a little more.
